Survival of the Dead [NR]: Talk about a second wind! At this point, no one could blame director George A. Romero if he just sat back and rehashed every cliché he started, yet instead, his previous zombie flick Diary of the Dead addressed how he's inspired a generation of amateur filmmakers. Now he goes and makes a movie set in his zombie universe about two Irish patriarchs in conflict over a land dispute. Loosely based on William Wyler's western The Big Country, forced to take sides, the military outfit that appeared briefly in Diary accompanies a banished landowner out to an island where a rival thinks zombies can be contained and cured. If you've never seen a zombie film, or think you've seen it all, here's one that's both unique and well done.
