 Great LakesDiamond Times [Empyrean] Get It at Amazon Hard to believe this is the same band that graced the Athens scene for years. The core duo of Dan Donahue and Ben Crum are now in Brooklyn, with Donahue eschewing the stage for writing and studio work. Several Elephant 6 compatriots make appearances (horny Gerbil Scott Spillane is AWOL, perhaps tellingly), but there's no trace of the giddy psych-pop of years gone by. Diamond Times sounds like a winsome Cracker record - an OK one, if that's what you're after. It's not the debacle of recent Love Tractor, but there are parallels. |
